To follow up on my last post…
This past weekend I spent some time at Cairn. It was great to be back up at camp for the weekend. I was there to help Fee-ya and Adam in the kitchen. We had a great time; meals were delicious & on time! It was a chilly weekend so we made sure to keep the coffee, tea, and hot chocolate flowing!
I was able to get my camera out one night and grab some shots of Evening Programme and Campfire.

here I go…up to my old summer stomping grounds. I was asked this week to help out in the kitchen for the May training weekend and I’m really excited to get to camp and watch two of my best friends co-direct. I’m so proud of both of them.
Chantal “Match” and I were LITs together in 1999. What an amazing experience being a Leader in Training! Now, over 10 years later, we’re still the best of friends and it’s been so cool to see how camp has influenced both our lives different ways. As I said, Chantal is working with children in the camping ministry and I am almost finished my university career to be a teacher!
Rebecca aka “You-can-call-me-Becky” aka “Palais” and I go way back. We were campers together in 1997 when we attended the Music & Arts camp and our friendship has only grown stronger over the years. In 1997 we were in Mole Hole with 2 amazing counsellors and 6 other girls. Our cabin managed to laugh the entire week…in the cabin, walking from activity to activity, practicing for the musical, and even during meals!

I’ve taken to collecting (and reading) children and young adult books. Last spring/summer I was very surprised by how amazing these books can be.
I was initially fascinated by a Canadian author – Deborah Ellis when I was asked to read The Breadwinner & Parvana’s Journey for my 3rd year course “Other World Views”. While working at the homework help centre (BPL) in the spring I was also able to read Looking For X. Now I own several of her books: Mud City, Bifocal, I am a taxi, The Heaven Shop, Children of War: Voices of Iraqi Refugees. Great author – highly recommended.
More recently I listened to the audio copy of The Hunger Games (S.Collins) on daily commutes, read Boy Meets Boy (D.Levithan, #lgbtq) in my downtime, and currently I am reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower (S.Chbosky).
Coming up next (aka To Be Read, aka #TBR):
- The Hunger Games book #2: Catching Fire! – audio (Book #3 to be released in August: Mockingjay)
- I am a taxi (D.Ellis)
- Luna (J.A.Peters, #lgbtq)
Final words…
I’m not sure I should admit this, because I know some very serious YA fans….but I haven’t read the Twilight series or Harry Potter (I will try again this summer though, that’s a promise – mainly so I can avoid the remarks from @andrewjblake). For the record though, I have started Philosophers Stone many times and just couldn’t get into it (*don’t hurt me*).

While I’m on the topic of books….what are your thoughts on the new technologies? The Kindle? The Kobo? The iPad? Personally, I like a good old fashion paper back book, but because I’m a gadget-techy lover, I could be persuaded to try it out.

Recently I’ve been thinking about how to make my domain a little bit easier to manage and simpler to update.
I’ve considered removing the hosting plan and simply pointing my domain to an auto-update site such as tumblr or flavors.me.
I tested the idea out with an old, recently expired domain of mine (kidscantdance.com). I used tumblr and google apps for custom @email. It worked great, and seemed simple.
However, at this time i still have a few months left on my pre-paid hosting plan with dreamhost (which by the way is a great company with excellent services, but perhaps a little costly).
For the mean time i’ve decided to refresh my WordPress Theme-Rising Sun <eric crooks> (matching MsPlinko on tumblr).

This weather has been amazing. Took my dog for a nice long walk yesterday. Here’s a picture of us in our gear:
