02.Oct.2009 music in life

It seems like music has really been shouting out to me lately.

Talking about music:
I’m taking a course right now, Youth Cultures (a 4th year seminar class), and we’ve had the opportunity to read and discuss various articles ["Friends don't let friends listen to corporate rock" - Moore, Ryan (2007)]

We also have a research paper coming due on October 7th. “Music & Musicians” – each student will choose a musician or band and offer an analysis of their influence on or connection to a particular youth culture.

Watching live music:
U2 concert at the Toronto Rogers Centre (formally known as the SkyDome).  These guys are RockStars, that’s for sure.  What a great show, lots of glitz and glamour.  This band knows how to go all out, the stage alone (“the claw”) takes days to set up and tear down and they have been traveling with 3 of them!!  Flickr Album. & Here are a couple pictures that I was able to grab:

Bono loves Toronto

Chantal Kreviazuk busks on the streets of Toronto as part of the 2nd Annual Busking for Change (War Child Canada). This was such a surreal experience for me. I have seen Chantal perform many times before, always seeking out front row seats (Sanderson Centre, Brantford, ON) or more intimate venues, but never turning down larger events (Mix 99.9 Beachfest, Casino Rama, etc…) but this time takes the cake. It was very brief (and cold and windy), she played about 4 songs (on guitar “those of you who know me, I don’t play guitar”), there was a good turn out. Flickr Album. & here are some of the pictures from this photo op:

Upcoming shows:
Chantal Kreviazuk tickets – Massey Hall, Toronto, ON December, 2009
Tegan and Sara tickets have been purchased for the Canadian Tour – Massey Hall, Toronto January 19 and 20th, 2010
Jann Arden – Centre in the Square, Kitchener, ON January, 2009

Playing music:
The other day I hung up my guitar in my room using a technique I learned at summer camp.  It is really simple, all I needed was a bike hook (about $0.98 from Home Depot) and a stud finder ($14.99 from Canadian Tire). I simply screwed the hook into the wall and voila:

During a few minutes of spare time I was able to play a few rounds of ROCK BAND I and II for Play Station II. Songs by Bon Jovi, LIT, Beastie Boys, Weezer, Survivor, and more…
