15.Dec.2009 Triple A

I’ve had a rough term this year, it’s weird because I usually enjoy getting back into the swing of a regular schedule with school and starting new classes.  In September i felt completely burnt out from a long hard spring and summer.  I was able to pull it together near the end and get some pretty good grades.  Here are three that I’m particularly proud of:

(1) Youth Cultures was my upper year class (4th year level).  It was awesome because we got to talk about some interesting subjects such as tweens, queer youth, youth activism, and cyber cultures.  I really enjoyed the class overall and I’m looking forward to getting my final paper back in the new year.  30% of my final grade for this class was for participation in the seminar setting…26/30 is not bad at all.  I was really happy that she appreciated that I ‘tackled political issues.’ Sometimes I feel like students fail to take the time to look at what lies underneath policies and programs…and I make sure that I bring it up when I can.

(2-3) Ontario Regions is a course that I took as part of 3.0 credits of a geography ‘teachable’ for my B.Ed [future].  It was a good course, I particularly liked reading the two novels that she chose for our book list: “The Backwoods of Canada” by Catherine Parr Traill (ok, so this one was a little dry at times, but overall not a bad read) and “In the Skin of a Lion” by Michael Ondaatje which was a good book and I would recommend it.  The majority of my mark this term was composed of a seminar presentation (15%) and a final paper (25%).  I chose to research Ontario Parks, which sparked my interest because of my camping background.  I hit the ball out of the park on both of these assignments.

It feels good to be proud of my hard work.

Youth Cultures – Participation (26/30 = 86% A)

All term your participation has been excellent and it has been a pleasure having you in the class.  You consistently demonstrate that you are working your way through the material and have considered it thoughtfully.  You also have a way of looking at things from a different perspective and don’t mind voicing a different opinion.  I especially appreciated how you consistently tackled political issues and therefore pushed the class to think broader directions.  Thank you for being such a consistently prepared and frequent participant.
